Most of your carbs should come from fruits and vegetables according to the Zone Diet plan and your fats should consist of monounsaturated fats from sources like olive oil and nuts. Most of the protein portion of the diet comes from meat.</p>
<p>The Zone Diet gets it name because it uses &#8216;zone food blocks&#8217; to achieve the desired ratio of fat, protein and carbohydrates. A certain amount of these blocks are eaten during each meal. The number of blocks that are eaten each day depends of a persons weight and body proportions. <p>Of course to be able to do the Zone Diet Plan you pretty much need the book. Even with the book the Zone Diet Plan is very complex and time consuming. The diet tries encourage eating the right carbs and fats. The South Beach Diet Plan follows the Glycemic Index.</p>
<p>The Glycemic Index rates carbs for how fast they breakdown and release sugar into the bloodstream. Those that are high on the index like bread and cereals breakdown quick and cause a rapid increase in insulin. In contrast good carbs that rate lower like pasta take longer to breakdown and cause less of a rapid increase in insulin release. So its important to chose the right carbs. Like most diets, the south beach diet plan stresses monounsaturated fats like olive oil and nuts.</p>
<p>The South Beach Diet Plan is divided into three phases. The first phase most carbs are restricted, than more and more low glycemic index carbs are reintroduced during phase 2 and 3. The South Beach Diet Plan claims you can lose on average 10 pounds in the first 2 weeks and 1 or 2 pounds a weeks after that.</p>

<p>The Dean Ornish diet plan became popular among heart patients for reversing heart disease. The Ornish diet is not just a diet but requires a complete lifestyle change. Complex carbs are also okay and whole grains but no refined sugar, alcohol or junk foods are allowed. Less than 10% of your calories should come from fat, 20% protein and 70% carbs. Dr Ornish&#8217;s book is a must if you plan on following the Dean Ornish diet plan as it is filled with excellent recipes to keep you with in his guidlines.</p>
<p>Unlike Dr. Atkins plan the Dean Ornish diet gets positive feedback from most in the medical community. Limited studies have shown overall health benefits of his plan. No Dean Ornish diet review would be complete without mentioning stress management using meditation and exercise.</p>
